This layer was originally built in the late 1990's by digitizing Assessor map pages and first rubber sheeting to Assessor book indexes that were COGOed for this project and those indexes to USGS Quadrangle maps and County Flood Control topo maps. In 1998, the Assessor purchased a GPS road centerline to acquire better positional accuracy and the full parcel layer was adjusted. In 2000 the County acquired its first full county digital orthoimagery, which enabled a better ortho rectified control in many areas to improve the accuracy of the Basemap. Overtime, the spatial accuracy of this layer has improved significantly by COGOing entire Assessor Parcel Map pages and new subdivisions then rubber sheeting to those pages. When geodetic control first started showing up on recorded subdivision maps, we were able to start placing COGOed parcels to their exact location. As countywide orthoimagery gets more accurate and the number of Record of Survey and subdivision maps record with geodetic control increases, the greater the positional accuracy of the parcels on this layer will increase. This dataset shows the locations of shore parallel coastal armoring structures Statewide. In 2005, NOAA Coastal Management Fellow, Jennifer Dare, developed a statewide coastal armoring and erosion GIS data layer for the California Coastal Commission (CCC) that contained polylines representing a variety of along-shore armoring structures. A combination of aerial images, oblique images from the California Coastal Records Project and georeferenced ortho-images were used to identify and map shoreline protective structures along the entire California coast. Building upon J.Dare's work, ESA PWA designed and constructed a comprehensive coastal armoring geodatabase for the California Coastal Commisison to help answer key management questions related to the impacts of armoring on the shoreline. The California Coastal Commission\u2019s Coastal Armoring database was updated in 2018. During the 2018 effort, California Coastal Commission analyst E. Essoudry used 2013 oblique images from the California Coastal Records Project and 2016-2018 ESRI and Google orbital imagery to approximate location and structure extent. The current draft database is a comprehensive statewide geospatial inventory of coastal armoring structures that will assist coastal managers and planners in identifying where past and present projects are located, locations of potential future development projects, identify resources potentially impacted by a project, and perform analyses on the cumulative impacts of armoring projects. This dataset also allows users to analyze spatial relationships among coastal armoring practices, answer important coastal management questions related to coastal armoring, and aid in climate change adaptation planning. The California Coastal Armoring Database (CCAD) is a comprehensive statewide geospatial inventory of shore parallel armoring structures. The database includes spatial locations of armoring structures as well as information related to a structure's physical characteristics, permit history and image sources. Data was developed using 2013-2015 oblique images from the California Coastal Records Project and 2016-2018 High Resolution Ortho Imagery and Google Imagery to approximate the location and structure extent. The focus of this database was to capture outer coast shore parallel armoring structures which are categorized into have 7 structure types: seawalls, bulkheads, revetment, cave infills, retaining walls, and surface armor such (shotcrete or concrete covering the bluff face).Each armor structure is identified by a unique identifier number in the attribute table (Structure ID). Users are advised to get familiar with the level of detail available for their area/s of interest to understand the potentially different levels of mapping details represented across their area/s of interest. Future releases of CARI will incorporate updated data sources as they become available. In order for new datasets to be integrated into future releases of CARI, they must meet the minimum standards discussed in the CARI SOP.The vision for CARI is that it will be used by resource agencies, city and county land-use planners, scientists, and other stakeholders as the go-to map to visualize and summarize aquatic resources in their regions for monitoring, and assessment purposes. As more stakeholders use the online wetland monitoring and assessment tools on EcoAtlas, regional interests will improve the map by editing it. EcoAtlas has an online CARI editing tool that allows users to employ the CARI mapping standards and methods to submit suggested updates by submitting direct online edits or by uploading a KML or GIS file. Updates to BHM 2020 v1.2 includes the automated mapping of Winter and Browns Islands and some manual refinements in regards to tidal connectivity status of SF Bay aquatic features.Description of Updates in CARI version 3.1CARI v3.1 represents another significant step towards the integration of regional automated wetland mapping into CARI. With this update, SFEI improved the integration of NWI and NHD aquatic features, updated one dataset: Baylands Habitat Map 2020 v1.1 (2025), and added one new dataset: UCSB Vernal Pools (2019). This version of CARI benefited from the implementation of an improved method for removing buffered streams from NWI features. Additionally, this version implemented standardization methods within the scripts to keep consistency and quality control within the dataset. These updates continue to make use of previous advancements in the scripted compilation of a wide range of datasets across the full state.Description of Updates in CARI version 3.0CARI v3.0 represents a significant step towards the integration of regional automated wetland mapping into CARI. With this update two automated wetland mapping projects are incorporated: The San Francisco Baylands Habitat Map 2020 and the San Diego Aquatic Resource Inventory. These two projects are two of the first primarily automated wetland mapping projects to be included and represent a foundation for the Institute to continue to build off of in order to pursue timely and scalable wetland mapping that can help with larger accounting of critical wetland and other aquatic resources as well as support change analysis.
